young boy burnt for stealing a necklace in nigeria

In Nigeria a boy was beaten, burned and killed for allegedly stealing a necklace. A Nairaland user succinctly describes the event.

"A man lying in the pool of his own blood. . .a mob gathered with sticks and stones and continues [sic] to brutally inflict pains on the already dying man in the presence of several hundred others. . . .not satisfied with their conquest, they set him on fire the first time, . . . . .the man, even though already weak having lost so much blood, stood up from the ground and ran in pain. . . . the mob went after him with sticks and everything, they couldn't afford [to] let him get away, he must die they thought to themselves. . . , . .they caught up with him in a flash and kicked him even harder than they ever did, blood spluttered all over his face, he finally gave up the fight to live. . .he lay in the street waiting for his final moments. . . .the mob was glad he gave up the fight, they soaked the already dying man in gasoline, and right in the presence of hundreds of witnesses, they set him ablaze. . .they killed him!!!"
- violent from Nairaland, pg. 2 "My God!...they Killed Him!"

The sadistic Jungle Justice that permeates Nigeria is disturbing. The young boy allegedly stole a necklace, allegedly.

Those rust stains are actually chocolate covered Swarovski crystals.

The mob beat him up. They had done that which the Nigerian police would have done.

The police is your friend, to force you down and render you helpless while the others jeer.

Then they went the extra mile to set him on fire. And towards the end of the video, you can hear him calling "Jesus." Religion is the opium of the masses, and seriously something else. The same people who killed him will readily attend their place of worship screaming Jesus.

"I No Send You" male version

Tha Suspect is one sick creative genius. Music is what he is meant to do, and it is a twist from his early aspirations of being a footballer. I am glad he maintained his physique. So the remix of "I No Send You" is out with a music video courtesy of Clarence Peters. The MV features Sound Sultan, Ill Bliss, Ghetto P, MI-Fliss, MI, Vector and Naeto C with DJ Tee. I gotta look into this DJ 'cause he's on top of things.

Sound Sultan is one of my favorite artists and an underrated one too. He can do a party song, "Very Good Bad Guy," and "Owo," and he can also focus on social issues with "Gengen," "Craze World," and "2010." He mentions that he "...started this Gangsta ish but they still no give [him] credit..." which is a fair point. Sound Sultan delivered his lines. This also says something about the genius of Tha Suspect. He is the Tade Ogidan of Naija rap/hip-hop.

Ill Bliss spouts confidence. Everything about him says "I got this!" And while I did try to pay attention to him, Tha Suspect in the outfit and glasses, the makeshift CNN and Tha Suspect's LOL catapulted my attention. I like Ill Bliss, he does not have to force anything and his swagger in a suit is seriously impressive.

Ghetto P. Who is this guy? I am so late to the game and I am impressed by him. He reminds me so much of Zee. I like his flow. I wanted more razz or sparks but I do like this hidden gem here. That he and Suspect are donning glasses makes for a magazine cover.

MI Fliss is good. He sounds like a poet, with a vengeance, and can you blame him. A look at what Naija calls hip-hop nowadays is sad. My favorite line, "okay you dey wear tattoo, make I dey fear you?" He knows who he's talking about and I like that he got to the point quickly. I know nothing about this guy and he got me hooked. And there is no pho-neh. They have their own accents and it doesn't come off as forced, more like someone who has lived abroad for a bit. And he supplements with some native tongue which is just butter on Agege bread.

"Unequivocally, I am the epitome of delivery..."-MI
His first line alone had me pause and restart that part again. MI is without a doubt a great lyricist. He will most likely go down in Naija's history books, if only someone would write them, as one of the greatest lyricist ever. Ever since he came out, I have been hooked. "Nobody Test Me," "Somebody Wants to Die," "Safe," the guy is good. His voice is unique, his flow is one in a fucking million and he nailed his part to a T. "And AE, I, O, U no vowels...," come on! Who does that? This guy is fucking genius. This is his best collabo so far. And we get to see more of the sculpture that is Tha Suspect @3:06-3:15 and at @3:20-3:24.

Vector is good. I heard a Greek reference there, and the same thing that got me with MI's safe with "I spit like Machiavelli," got me here with "I'm up here like Leonidus." That appeals to my intellect and if you can use such allusion well then you got me. I like his flow and his swagger.

Naeto C is handsome and cool but I just am not feeling him. I want to so badly cause I have mad respect for him for getting his Msc in Energy Economics. I applaud his achievements, and I love his dress sense, but I wasn't feeling him. I do however love this one line from him, "Na Mac I dey use boss so virus no fit penetrate." I get it 'cause I got an iPod and I so get the whole virus thing. So, I will like him for that geek moment.

With all these product placement, can our Nigerian artists get contracts with these companies. There was the NY hat with Mo'Cheddah, the Old Navy Hoodie Tha Suspect wore with Ghetto P, and the Mac dropped in Naeto's lines.

Sorry boys, the ladies won this round.

"I No Send You" female version

David Peter, aka Tha Suspect, is one of the greatest creative minds Nigeria has ever churned. His creativity is unlike any artist I have ever witnessed. The guy is fish in water; music is practically natural to him.

I saw the female version, the femcees version, and although I could've done without the title of femcees, afterall the women are emcees as well, it was amazing. The music video alone made me want to purchase the music file, and for that I credit Clarence Peters. I will have an entire section devoted to him, when I'm done with the research. The female version featured Sasha, Muna, Blaise, Eva, Mo'Cheddah and Zee with DJ Tee.

The video begins with Sasha in a throne assuming a royal position. My feelings with Sasha are similar to that of Beyonce. I cannot get into her but I will applaud her for her achievements. I do like that her hair is plaited. It is a nice and welcome change from the wigs and weaves.

Muna is something else, and I like her. For me, she is different and her flow is good. I like watching her even with the cursing. It fits the message of the song, I No Send You, carry go. In her scenes, I gotta give mad props to the director of this MV. If only he could direct one film..hmmm make it with Sir Tade Ogidan. I actually might jizz my pants for that. I want to see more of Muna, and I have been searching YouTube. She is bad, in the good sense of the word, and something about her holds my attention. I know I'm late to the Naija music scene ‘cause my memory of hip-hop stops at Trybesmen (the good oldies) and Eedris Abdulkareem.

Eva's voice reminds me of Retta in that they have this soulful jazz thing going on. And I love it. I miss the hip-hop that does not come off as brash. It is sexy and something of a guilty pleasure. The cussing fits perfectly because the song tells you the same thing, I No Send You, when you don tire you go siddown. She, as every other female in this MV, comes off strong and confident and that I like.

Mo'Cheddah did her thing as a pop-artist. She was cute here and THA SUSPECT IS BUILT! It's always nice to be able to gawk at the guy for a change. Especially since Naija guys tend to prefer those Guiness and Stout and Eba bellies. It was nice to see a sculpted body @ 2:26, 2:30-2:50 intermittently.

Blaise is mother-fucking awesome and an "ass-kicking money-making machine". She is Naija's #1 female artist and underrated at that. Nothing and no one comes close. She drops lines with metaphors and links the political strife of Nigerians. "You get more trouble than the South-South…Blaise played the hand and Naija Delta." She is the only female rapper I have seen who can play to the conscious of the people, like Sound Sultan. Another thing about her is that I can hear what she is saying so well. She is seriously eloquent even when being aggressive, and she does not cuss. With her, a beep here or there is not even necessary. It is different and good and just Blaise. She is the Bimbo Akintola of Naija's rap/hip-hop game, to me at least. She is at the top and no one comes close.

Zee, "the lyrical lady", murdered her performance. She did not kill it, she fucking mutilated it and proudly displayed the skin like the Championship belt. I have never heard of her until now but she delivers an astounding performance. I see her going to the top because the girl is good. I hope she stays with Capital Hill 'cause she may not be popular but anyone who knows rap/hip-hop will know that Zee is meant to be a star. She can hold her own.

This is what Tha Suspect does, he gets me hooked. And now he's about to pull a Sade and put music out every once in a while. But when he does it, you know it'll be good. So yeah, I'll forgive him and hit repeat.
